To My Grandmother
To my amazing grandma, thank you for being an amazing mama, thank you for loving us, thank you for never hesitating to set me straight when I misbehaved, thank you for showing me how to care for people with how kind you were to even strangers, Thank you for the amazing family you gave me.
My grandmother was a woman who wasn’t scared to speak her mind, she was brave, beautiful and God fearing. She stood for the truth no matter the cost, she ensured that the ways of God was a standard, she loved me before my memories formed, she made Christmas and holidays in okpuje-ani worthwhile.
They say, it is appointed every man to die but I didn’t think you will go so soon, my heart hurts each time I remember I won’t get to hear your voice again, how are we supposed to come back to a home without you. Life isn’t fair for taking you from us. You were supposed to get better and live a long life, how do we get over the harsh reality of never seeing you face again.
You were fond of saying “it is well even in the well” but mama it is not well, all is far from well. How do we say goodbye to the most amazing person we’ve known all of our lives, you are who we call home, I still wake up every morning wishing all this is one bad and long dream, but it’s not.
I love you mama and I will continue to do so as long as I live, I will pass down the memories of how you were such an amazing grandma to all my younger cousins who didn’t get the chance to really know you. If we get another chance at life I honestly pray and hope that I end up as your granddaughter again.
I love you mama and I will miss you but just like your name, I will believe that God’s time is the best and that the Creator of the universe has taken you to a place so great that the human mind can’t comprehend.
